Charter Class, Spring 2018 Year: Alumnae Major: Human Development and Family Studies with a Certificate in Global Health How has DPhiL help you grow? “Even though I haven't reached a year old in Greek life yet, it is undeniable that Delta Phi Lambda has made a great impact on my life. As I was getting older as an undergraduate, the opportunities I sought to challenge myself professionally and personally were becoming more limited. Delta Phi Lambda opened up many doors of opportunity for growth while I'm still here in Madison and for my future. Professionally, I have grown by continuously being challenged as a leader and learning how to network with others. Personally, I am someone who sticks in my comfort zone; therefore, I rarely make the effort to get to know people. However, through my professional growth I have grown to be more comfortable with the social aspect of my personal life as well. In addition to, the sisters I met on this journey have provided me unconditional love and support in the times least expected and the warmth and love they possess for sisters is so awe-inspiring that my self-confidence grew. The dedication these sisters have shown me to this sorority allowed me to realize that I wanted to dedicate my life to this path of navy blue and silver. In retrospect, they taught me how to depend on others and to keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone because there is so much more to discover about yourself and the world.” |

Charter Class, Spring 2018 Year: Alumnae Major: Elementary Education with a Certificate in ESL Why did you choose to charter DPhiL? “My motivation to charter the 20th Chapter of Delta Phi Lambda came from my passion to give back to others in the UW-Madison community. Yes, sororities are cool with all the line jackets and strolling and stuff, but beyond all of that, it was important for me to create a new opportunity and resource for womxn to grow as empowered leaders. I pioneered the traditions and Virtues of DPhiL onto this campus because this organization genuinely cares about every Sister and the communities they represent. This is shown through the countless scholarships provided to Sisters and the projects Chapters do to positively impact the people around them. Not only that, establishing a new Chapter meant that I would be able to lay the foundation for generations of womxn to come. Laying that foundation was challenging, but this ensured that our Chapter would be open-minded and our work would be invested in building positive experiences for anyone that encountered us. Now, Delta Phi Lambda has a home in Madison, WI, and we are inviting any womxn to be apart of it. All you have to do is spread your wings and let your light shine forth.” |

Charter Class, Spring 2018 Year: Senior Major: Nursing and Human Development and Family Studies How has DPhiL help you grow? “In just the last semester alone, I have seen myself grow so much as a person. Delta Phi Lambda helped me to become a better sister and leader. It is the continuous support that I get from DPhiL that builds my confidence and encourages me to always strive for the better. Much like chartering the sorority, I've gained new experiences by stepping out of my comfort zone and giving things a chance. I am no longer that quiet & shy “Lilly” from Pitch Perfect.” |

Charter Class, Spring 2018 Year: Senior Major: Human Development and Family Studies with a Certificate in Criminal Justice What are some of your favorite memories with your DPhiL Sisters? “There's this quote "today's little moments, become tomorrow's precious memories." This definitely applies to my journey I share with my Sisters because, only they can truly understand the joy that I have felt when we chartered Delta Phi Lambda. We solely did this for ourselves, but we knew the story we were writing would not be finished by us, but by those that come after us. As we begun writing our Everlasting Sisterhood, we shared food with each other, we shared clothes/shoes, we were housed by each other, we shed tears together, we laughed at/ with each other, we made Madison feel a lot more like home for one another. I remember staying up late and ordering food at 12 AM. I remember my date with Kacie to the art museum and our mini photoshoot. I remember walking in the snow and holding on to Connie because we were afraid of falling. I remember getting Sencha with Paula and being surprised at how big the glass mason jar mugs were. These little moments became precious memories for me. I felt so loved and cared for because of Delta Phi Lambda and all the wonderful people I met, that I don't even remember when these memories were formed. One thing I know for sure is that, these dedicated female leaders have definitely become important people in my life; my memories will continue to be filled with them. My name is Rose PaYing "Naylanιe" Lee, #06, and I am truly blessed.” |

Charter Class, Spring 2018 Year: Senior Major: Computer Science with a Certificate in Digital Studies How has DPhiL help you grow? “Ever since joining DPhiL, I have grown to become a more open and social person. I used to be very shy, so it was difficult for me to gain more friends and connections. It was always a struggle to talk to someone first because I would wait for them to approach me; however, DPhiL exposed me to many wonderful womxn who had the same interests as I did. Knowing that I had inspirational and strong womxn surrounding me, I took the lead in conversations so that I would actually get to know them and to become closer with womxn whom I will forever keep in touch with. After the different social approach, it was easier for me to converse with people even outside of DPhiL because of the great experiences I made within the organization. I trusted myself more in social occasions and got to know more people, from DPhiL and those outside of DPhiL, in Madison by the end of my Freshman year.” |

Charter Class, Spring 2018 Year: Senior Major: Microbiology with a Certificate in Business Why did you choose DPhiL? “I came into UW-Madison with a lack of guidance. It didn’t feel like home and I couldn’t find the people on campus I could rely on and connect with. When first considering DPhiL, I created a personal connection with a member. I looked up to her and her values and she created an environment I wanted to be a part of. Seeing the people and how much pride and passion people have as a member of DPhiL had been my driving force to join such a great organization.” |

Charter Class, Spring 2018 Year: Senior Major: Legal Studies with Certificates in Criminal Justice & Studio Art How has DPhiL helped you grow? “As someone who is very reserved and introverted, DPhiL has allowed me to open my doors for others to get to know me at a deeper level. Through DPhiL, I have grown to be vulnerable yet confident. I learned to turn my weaknesses into strengths and I have grown into a dedicated female leader through DPhiL's virtues. DPhiL has allowed me to true to myself and become a stronger womxn each day. I believe that I will continue to show different sides of myself and flourish even more in the upcoming years.” |

Charter Class, Spring 2018 Year: Senior Major: Industrial Engineering Why did you choose to charter DPhiL? “I honestly hadn't heard of Delta Phi Lambda before coming to Madison. I have a younger sister and as many people know, family is extremely important to me. Coming from an engineering school in New York, I never had many female friends so the idea of having sisters was really attracted me. I loved the idea of sisterhood, having someone to turn to and lean on. One of the most important reasons I chose to charter Delta Phi Lambda was because I wanted to lead something not just be a part of it. I wanted to bring something new to the campus and by chartering I knew I would be able to contribute to determining where the sorority will go and the impact it leads. That is definitely something I find really unique about our sorority and our sisters. Since our sorority is still pretty new, things are always changing and sisters are always eager to make a change.” |

Alpha Class, Fall 2018 Year: Senior Major: Nursing How has DPhiL helped you grow? “As an active member now, I have grown in so many ways. For examples, I am much more comfortable speaking to new people, exploring my leadership abilities, and learning to put myself first more often. I have been in many positions where I was able to learn how to communicate better too. DPhiL also gives you the opportunity to hold positions, be on committees, and explore different avenues (e.g. social, philanthropy, finance, sisterhood, etc.).” |

Alpha Class, Fall 2018 Year: Senior Major: Neurobiology with a Certificate in Global Health Studies What are some of your favorites DPhiL memories? “Some of my favorite DPhiL memories include preparing and performing in Triple S and yard shows with my sisters! We always put in lots of work preparing for our performances, but it always is fun and so much worth it in the end. Our line even has our own Alpha Class stroll which is something that has helped us grow a lot closer.” |

"Delta Phi Lambda has definitely helped me grow in my leadership skills and encouraged me to partake in opportunities to gain experience outside of my comfort zone. Not only that, my social network has been expanded in and outside of the Madison community. DPhiL also has challenged me to understand what it really means to be a Dedicated Female Leader® by participating in events and taking leadership roles." |
